Dublin-A little history and sightseeing
Today began with a traditional European breakfast. We met our group for a walking tour with our city guide, Tommy Graham. He graduated from Trinity College with a major in Irish history and genealogy. Our fist stop was at St. Teresa Carmelite Church situated on an alleyway. It is only 1 of 2 Catholic churches in Dublin. We continued to Dublin Castle. There were sand sculptures in the center that will stay there for about a month. One of the sculptors was actually there working on his art. We walked on to Trinity College to see the Book of Kells. On the second floor is a long room containing volumes of old books as well as the harp once believed to be used by Brian Brua in the 9th century; however, it is now believed to be made in the 12 century. Myths and legends!
After our walking tour the McDonalds and Summers joined us for soup and bread and the one act play, "A Galway Girl-An Irish Marriage", at Bewley's Restaurant. After a short rest at the hotel the McDonalds, Kanene and I went to the Guinness greenery for a tour and a pint in the Gravity Bar. After a taxi cab ride home, we all walked to dinner at Hugo's restaurant and celebrated the Summer's anniversary. After dinner we again had a small drink in the hotel bar and off to bed we went.
