Free Day in Dingle
After sleeping in until 8:30 AM we enjoyed a hearty breakfast. I asked Chuck what he wanted to do (fishing, boat ride to the island, etc.) and he said shopping! I didn't ask twice! So we started out and stopped at several shops along the way. We continued our walk to the Diseart (rhymes with T-shirt) Centre of Irish Spirituality and Culture. It is behind St. Mary's Church. It has a beautiful sanctuary, altar and stained glass windows from Germany. It was built in the 19th century. In 1922 Harry Clark was commissioned to make 6 double windows for each side of the chapel. These windows depict 6 scenes from the list of Christ--the Coming of the Magi, Baptism of Jesus, Let the Little Children Come to Me, Sermon on the Mount, Agony in the Garden and the Resurrection.
Eleanor E. Yates painted the fresco (in header) in 2011. It depicts the last supper. She used local people as models, and added locally made items, the Blasket Island, the oak tree which is on the property, even an overturn chair showing where Judas left quickly, and a raven to the right with coins in its beak.
After dinner we went to the Dingle Music Shop. Sebastian Petiet played an awesome violin, Gerry O'Beirne on the guitar, Pauline singing, Jeremy Spencer on the fiddle, Sean on the guitar and David, a 16 year old Irish dancer. What a great evening!
